Hi! We're Jonathan and Renee, the owners and operators of Smart Publishing.

Our journey started when I (Renee) self-published my first book. A year before that, Jonathan had published his book through a publishing company that many of his peers recommended. The process, while educational, was tough—he was juggling a lot at the time, and the back-and-forth editing process left him feeling more overwhelmed than supported. When launch day came, his marketing fell flat, and he missed Amazon Best Seller status—something that later turned out to be a simple issue of category selection.

Jonathan admits he’s “not a writer,” so when I saw him become a published author—a longtime dream of mine—I knew I had no excuse. I set out to write my book and completed my manuscript in just four months. After a few publishing conversations that didn’t feel quite right, I decided to dive in and learn the entire process myself. Before noon on release day, my book had reached Best Seller status in all three of its categories.

That experience lit a fire in both of us. We realized there was a better, more personal way to help authors bring their stories to life. One that combined the professionalism of publishing with the personal touch of people who truly care about each book’s success.

And that’s how Smart Publishing was born.

We built this company to be the kind of publishing partner we wish we’d had—one that takes all the heavy lifting off of authors. Our approach is high-touch, transparent, and intentionally personal. We keep our author list small so we can stay hands-on and fully invested in every project we take on.
